  1. Media is both-siding the cemetery story, as expected:

    JLrwq9x.png

    The "dueling allegations" are:

    - Trump staff verbally assaulted cemetery staff who told them they couldn't film campaign stuff on the grounds

    - Trump staff now saying that the employee suffered from a "mental health incident" towards them

And the WSJ is both-siding it. Jesus christ.

Can't remember who or where in this thread but I'll just echo the sentiment: Until Nov. 6th Harris can do no wrong and is unimpeachable. After that my gloves will be off.

I would extend that to until Trump is dead and can no longer be nominated for the Presidency, Harris can do no wrong.

  3. Ukraine has started using their own new long-range weapon since the US won't allow American gear to be used. No one knows the exact details, but it's a "missile drone." Best theory based on photos is that it's effectively a cruise missile/drone hybrid (where the rocket gets the drone to a long-distance location, where the drone detaches and then strikes).

    APNEWS.COM

Ukraine says it has a new homegrown long-range weapon that will allow it to strike deep into Russia without asking permission from allies.

The name of the new weapon is (I think) the translation of a type of bread. The reason the word was chosen is that it is very difficult for Russians to pronounce. So much so, that in the early stages of the war the Ukrainians would use it as a checkpoint word for civilians they were allowing through their lines to make sure they weren't Russians in disguise.

I don't need my toaster to be connected to proprietary internet apps and services. It's a toaster for fucks sake.

But put linux on it and we can talk.

My 20-year-old washer and drier had some issues this year and I made damned sure we fixed them rather than replace. I don't need an app or wifi to wash my clothes. Ideally, I just want a single knob or dial, and a few push buttons.

I think this type of thing and the mic thing is Kamala and her team's way of really psyching out Trump.

She is signalling just now hungry she is to get him on stage that he's on his own head about just how badly things could go for him when/if he does.

I think it also likely creates friction in his own camp, as his advisors (at least the smart ones) know that the less he is in public, the better...but he can't resist.

  6. Russia launched what appears to be its biggest missile attack yet (on the morning after Ukraine's independence day), primarily targeting power infrastructure, with:

    • 127 cruise missiles
    • 109 Shahed drones

Ukraine managed to shoot down 102 of the 127 missiles, and 99 of the 109 drones

Estimated cost of this attack (in Russian arms) is $1.2 billion USD.

The campaigns are fighting over muting the mics at the debate, harris' campaign wants them unmuted cause when Trump speaks people hate him, Trump's campaign wants them muted cause they know when he talks people hate him, lol.

It's doubly hilarious because it's the opposite approach that Biden's team wanted. Harris' team realizes that the debate isn't a debate at all, it's a vibe check.

This is the current HUGE TOP HEADLINE NEWS on foxnews.com right now. Headline is "Walz faces accusation of misrepresenting himself yet again in blistering unearthed letter" with a photo caption of "TIM'S TALL TALE" and a comments section full of vile subhuman freaks acting like it's the most salacious scandal they've ever encountered.

Hell yeah. It’s one of those classics you’ve heard about your whole life, but actually lives up to the hype.

And I can’t really throw stones because I have plenty of huge blind spots, but it is pretty baffling to see the sequels without seeing the original. It would make way more sense to have never seen any of the Alien movies at this point. :p

Haha, yeah I'm not sure how I missed it. I think because I first watched Aliens when I was younger, I just associated the franchise with that (and of course all the sequels were bad in comparison).

  10. That's probably shocking to many! Alien is one of the three giant movies that for whatever reason, I never watched (the other two are Titanic and Avatar). I love Aliens and have seen it probably 25+ times, and have seen every other Alien franchise movie at least once (haven't seen Romulus yet, but will). I don't know why Alien always eluded me, but last night after I was feeling down because of @stepee's death, my wife pulled out an air mattress and sleeping bags, and we made our living room into a sleepover to watch a movie. Don't know why, but I chose Alien.

Fantastic film, and though I already knew the plot, it really holds up for a film from the 70s, especially the set design and effects. Yeah, it's obvious the xenomorph is a guy in a rubber suit compared to subsequent movies, but everything is still very effective.

Overall it just blew me away with how lived-in the Nostromo felt, and how so few movies made today have that same feel. These were just seven regular-ish people doing their long-haul job, and they looked it. I am definitely on the bandwagon that modern movies have actors that look too good for the roles they are in, and wish we could also go back to heavier use of practical sets and effects.

Anyway, I'd rate it a good 8.5 or 9 out of 10. I'd still say Aliens is my favourite (in the same way I'd say T2 is my preferred Terminator over the original, as I am more of a fan of action compared to horror/thriller), but I can definitely see why people say it's one of the most important horror/sci-fi movies of all time.

An idea that @Andrea and I had to show our community's support for his family would be to send them actual handwritten letters and notes to show them just how many different lives their son touched in so many different places.

Handwritten letters and notes represent a truly human connection that a typewritten one simply cannot capture...unless your handwriting is absolutely illegible dogshit - then you have permission to send a typewritten one :p

Because of her direct connection to the family, I'll defer to Andrea in obtaining the mailing address for us.

    That's a very nice idea.
