  1. What's that fake quote from Bismark? God has a special providence for fools, drunkards, and the United States of America. It seems every time the US is going to face a major challenge (running out of oil, the rise of China, etc) something comes in to save the day.

However, while this will possibly help the US maintain its economic leadership into the mid-21st-Century, it's also bad news for internal stability in a nuclear nation that is itching to take back some of its lost territory (that the US has promised to defend). So not good.

No clearly the problem is human reproduction. You know, the one thing we’re actually here to do

While I am myself something of an anti-natalist and think beings with consciousness are a mistake, we are already here, and I would never begrudge people for having kids within reason (I think having more than 2-3 is a bad move for multiple reasons). Ideally the human population shrinks to a few hundred million in the next 100-200 years and then levels out, assuming we can't find a way to get off the planet (which seems unlikely to happen).

Don't know why we aren't paying farmers in places like Texas and Utah to just get the fuck out.

Or just charge for water usage accordingly, and don't provide subsidies to farms. Oh, it turns out that you can't turn a profit when you pay for the actual costs of farming on land that isn't meant for it? Then it shouldn't be done. The issue is that much of the best farmland in the US is also used to provide non-sustenance crops to be sold overseas. Obviously you need to make it possible/affordable to farm sustenance crops for use within the US, no matter the effort.

  4. Just finished Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's a litRPG book (first I've read) that effectively has aliens turn the Earth into a giant D&D dungeon for the purpose of an intergalactic TV show. It's got some great humour and is well-written. The series was originally self-published, but is now coming out in hardcover (one book per month) as it's been very successful.

Ironically, some of the users on this board treat political opinions as the "one drop rule".  They'd rather have a politically homogeneous party than be accepting of newcomers who don't pass the purity test.

I'm welcoming of people who don't immediately revert to name-calling anyone who disagrees with them, which vital does. He's not arguing to actually discuss anyone, he's arguing to make people angry and get a reaction. It's why he's sad.

Imagine if she loses the debate. It’s going to look really bad to try to scramble to do interviews as quickly as possible to make up for it like Biden attempted. She basically has gone all in the debate. I think it would have been safer to do one or two more boring interviews.

By any rational sense, it is impossible for Harris lose (if we're talking being coherent, presenting policy priorities, pointing out issues with her opponent, etc). However, as debates are actually about those things, despite what people try to fool themselves into thinking, they are about vibe. Harris needs to be aggressive, dominant over Trump, and supremely confident and about to answer questions with a 10-second, simple explanation.

Can she lose on that metric? Yes. I don't think it's likely based on how her campaign is being run (they seem very aware of how Trump has trapped Clinton and Biden in the past with fish galloping, etc), but it's possible.

Honestly I think as long as Harris doesn't seem "nasty" or too aloof, then she will be okay.

I heard she is deep into Scientology and a Danny Masterson apologist.

Yeah, just read more on this. Apparently she was at the initial hearing for Danny Masterson's trial. Yikes. I am hoping that she has since disavowed both Masterson and Scientology...though I am doubtful. It's entirely possible to be in a cult and then later regret it and leave. However, assuming she is still a Scientologist, that is a crazy bad look for Linkin Park to have their leader single kill himself after a long struggle with mental illness, only to then replace him with someone who doesn't even believe in psychiatry/psychology.

  8. An important note is that undecideds seem to be leaning towards Harris, which is good (was the VAST opposite in 2016):

Something else to be cautiously hopeful about is that registration data shows that young women (and other strong Dem groups) appear to be registering to vote in record numbers right now. Those groups are typically not captured in polling, and the models likely aren't accounting for them. So there is some hope that Harris is being underestimated due to that. Again, cautious optimism.

  9. They announced it with a livestreamed concert. I have to say, she carries Chester's parts very well, especially the screaming. I am interested to see where they go with her. Numb live:

New album Nov 15 called From Zero. Here is a song from it:

The rock band, which now includes singer Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, also announced their new album 'From Zero.'

I'm sure that is the case, but I hate not knowing da lore. I feel like I'm missing so much context. Happened with Wukong big time.

    WH:40K is literally:

    Pure Human = Good

Anything Else = Bad (from perspective of Imperium)

But also sometimes Pure Human = Bad

And then the goal is to kill everyone who is Bad, even if that also means many Good die in crossfire. There are stories, but they don't really matter.
