Whatever Ukraine intends to accomplish with this incursion, they appear to be putting significant resources behind it. There are EW operations occurring to prevent Russians from detecting troop movement on that border, and DDOS attacks have taken down many regional services. Additionally, in the two weeks prior to this move, Ukraine destroyed much of the electrical infrastructure of that border region. So far it appears the Russians haven't been able to stop them, and it looks like Wagner forces are being deployed to the region.

The rally in Detroit is crazy. The crowd is huge, spilling out of the hangar onto the tarmac. They pulled Air Force 2 right up to the rally. Head of the UAW was hype man, got the crowd chanting HE'S A SCAB about Trump, called Harris a badass woman who walked the picket line.

Authorities say two suspected extremists, including one who pledged allegiance to ISIS, appeared to be planning an attack on an event in the Vienna area such as upcoming Taylor Swift concerts.

Two people were arrested, with three still at large. Bomb-making materials were found at one of their residences, and the two had previously sworn allegiance to ISIS.

I could claim, legally and technically, that I too am a combat veteran.  I served in a combat zone for both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  But I don't feel like I truly am a combat veteran because I was always hundreds of miles away from where the actual shooting was taking place, and I never even handled a weapon during my time in the middle east. 

 

I am proud of my service, and Walz should as well.  Even Vance should feel good about his own time in the Marines, even if it was in a non-combat role.  

Has Walz ever actually claimed to be a combat veteran, or seen war? The only thing I've seen in a single instance (of a run-on sentence that could be interpreted a few ways) where he's talking about restricting assault rifles for public use.

Harris rally this evening is moving from a 10,000-person stadium to the airport after receiving 47,000 ticket requests:

Vance is campaigning today in MI and is using a "stolen valor" line of attack on Walz, claiming that since he never served in combat, that he's a fake soldier.

According to disclosures, Tim Walz and his wife don't own any stocks, real estate, or investments. They just have their work/teacher pensions.

Looks like thousands already lined up in Eau Claire, WI for the rally.

EDIT - It's an outdoor rally, and theoretically can hold up to 30,000 (though that number is unlikely).

Yeah, I hope they withdraw quickly. If they can do short incursions and waste Russian materiel (and more importantly, draw Russian troops away from other areas) then that's fine, but they shouldn't waste any lives or important gear.

Personally, I think that it's getting a little played out at this point and should probably be dialed back a bit, along with the entire "couch" thing.  They're great for rallies to get the partisans worked up into a frothing lather, but let's not go overboard, shall we?

Yep, I agree as well. It's a good attack to use within the base (and a little bit to wink at in the mainstream), but shouldn't be overdone. However—and I'm basing this just off of their messaging so far—the Harris team seems to have a pretty good grasp of the zeitgeist and how to message things. So I'm not too worried about them going too far in on it. Even their focus on the future (and avoiding responding directly to Trump's attacks) is a good move so far. Yes, you need to paint Trump and Vance as the past, and strange, and wrong, etc, etc, but you most importantly need to paint a vision of the future to vote for.

Luntz is a piece of shit, but even he says his dumb focus groups like Harris, and that she's got the momentum to win.

Ukraine has not made any official statements on the incursion into Russia, all information so far is coming from panicked Russian regulars, and the local government. Talk of the largest local town Sudzha (which is very close to this incursion) being evacuated, but it looks like Ukraine may have remotely mined some of the roads into/out of the area, and is deploying logistics to support the incursion. Also talk that the mayor may have already surrendered the town to Ukraine, no confirmation.

Putin is meeting with his security council, I imagine they are trying to pressure the US to insist that Ukraine back off.

In the last 24 hours or so, Ukraine has made forays into Russia, in the Kursk region. They've moved as far as 10km into Russia, taking many soldiers hostage and destroying equipment and helicopters. Ukraine appears to be pushing in using mostly Strykers and Humvees. Ukraine will say these are "pro-Ukrainian Russians," but we all know it is Ukraine doing this. Russia appears to have been caught completely off guard.

Gen Z on TikTok (especially women) seem to love Walz. One of the things that appears to stick with them is he is the "dad they lost to the Trump cult," but if things were different. Basically a good example of a kind, caring, masculine guy.
