  1. This seems like something I might like. My dad watches a lot of international programming on Netflix and insists it's great. Dark is one of the few international shows I watched. There's a lot of value on Netflix that I haven't even begun to tap. https://www.ft.com/content/c7d9da39-c626-425f-976f-712e5543c289 Overall I'm still a fan of Netflix, but they do cancel too many shows. Along those lines, this Financial Times article seems to back up some of the intuitions here.
  2. I too wish we could solve it all in one big package, but we all know how that goes with Congress and our system. The complexity of trying to fix higher education costs and inflation are much greater than student debt too. It may end up being an issue where the underlying causes of the system continue to be broken and every 20 years a president or Congress forgives the debt.
  3. I read the article. What's the problem? It seems pretty even handed if you ask me. Basically if you legalized harder drugs, it wouldn't be ideal to have a full commercial model for a lot of good reasons. Legalization of hard drugs would need stricter regulations to reduce the overall cons of the policy.
  4. I wish he gave more to charities. It’s perplexing. It’s in his interest to throw a billion here and there to the global poor. It’s his largest moral failing and he has plenty of them. Still, I like Tesla and SpaceX. I think Musk has some attributes to be admired. But he’s got a messiah complex that ruined what could have been. I hope he gets better with time. As for him purchasing Twitter, I don’t think it’s the end of America. We were already done! ps: Weird silly fight
  5. I didn’t know they cancelled it. It was on my list of things to watch. Now 🤷🏻‍♂️
  6. I saw it and in this instance it’s more about me being cheap so I can watch it over a one month or less period of time to save on subscription fees.
  7. I'm ignoring all the posts here. I just finished season 5 and I'm waiting for season 6 to build up before binging it on AMC+. In the meantime, I'm rewatching Breaking Bad.
  8. Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Ryzen 7 5800X: Zen 3 Gaming Shootout | TechSpot WWW.TECHSPOT.COM On the menu today is another 40 game benchmark -- actually 41. This time it's the 5800X3D against its spiritual predecessor, the 5800X, to see where that...
  9. Agreed. The standard response is they are in line with other cable tv networks with their cancellations, but they aren't choosing the right shows and it feels like an algorithm deciding; they aren't taking intangibles into account or potential viewership surges in later seasons like Breaking Bad had. Edit: Also they started with top tier content, but now they just produce a lot of trash with the upper end content. Tiger King is a great example of something they did that is shit but popular. P.S. I still have my subscription and have no plans to cancel. I enjoy a lot of their shows, and I'm catching up on Better Call Saul Season 5 right now on Netflix. There's still tons of value there, but they could do a lot better.
  10. Review round ups: https://videocardz.com/127562/amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d-review-roundup https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/u5jadk/amd_ryzen_7_5800x3d_meta_review/ 40 game benchmarks 5800x3d vs Intel i9-12900K: Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Core i9-12900K in 40 Games | TechSpot WWW.TECHSPOT.COM A massive gaming benchmark comparison between the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Core i9-12900K, pitting the two head to head across 40 games at 1080p, 1440p and 4K,... Performance degrades in applications outside of gaming relative to a regular Zen 3 5800x, but significant gains are made in gaming. In two separate 40 game tests, it matched or exceeded the 12900k by a smidge on average. The amazing thing is how well it does against the 12900k with far less power. Multiple reviews have confirmed this result. Intel is basically throwing brute force at games and AMD is getting lots of frames in an efficient way. This is the opposite of what we used to come to expect from the two companies a mere 5 years ago when bulldozer was AMD's architecture. 5800x3d is on AM4, so with a bios update, many of us can just drop it in to our existing motherboards which is nice. I may consider it in one or both of my desktops eventually. The bad news is AM4 is dead after this chip, so if you're building a whole new rig and want more cpu options down the road, you need to look elsewhere such as Intel or wait for AM5 later this year. The price isn't great at $450 unless you are competing with Intel's 12900k for gaming, but it could be worse. Maybe it goes down some when Zen 4 and next gen Intel comes out. Overall a remarkable showing from AMD considering this is basically a 1.5 year old architecture with some cache slapped on top. Rumor has it Zen 4 with Vcache will be released early 2023 if this chip is successful.
  11. This is a relief. Hopefully we don't have any insane surprises. The gap seems wide enough to be meaningful.

  13. MACRON, LE PEN HEAD TO SECOND ROUND French President Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen gathered respectively 28.1 percent and 23.3 percent of the vote in the first round, according to projections by polling institute Ipsos. Left-wing firebrand Jean-Luc Mélenchon comes in third, with 20.1 percent of the vote. Other candidates failed to reach 10 percent — with far-right TV-pundit-turned-politician Eric Zemmour gathering 7.2 percent and Valérie Pécresse from conservative party Les Républicains 5 percent, the projections also show. Greens MEP Yannick Jadot got 4.4 percent and Paris Socialist Mayor Anne Hidalgo 2.1 percent. Official results are expected later this evening.
  14. Emmanuel Macron has topped voting in this first round with 28.1 percent of the vote. Marine Le Pen is second with 23.3 percent. They are France's two finalists for the April 24 run-off. Live: Macron leads first round of French election, to face Le Pen in run-off (exit poll) WWW.FRANCE24.COM President Emmanuel Macron will face the far right’s Marine Le Pen in France’s presidential run-off after topping the first round on Sunday with 28.1% of the vote, according...
  15. I’m skeptical we will get more based on my findings, but based on the Laconia scenes someone must want to make more. It appears they’re talking, but if the numbers weren’t there for the show, then I doubt they’ll do it.
  16. Just finished the last season. We were saving it. It nailed it as usual, this time with fewer episodes, but they somehow managed to pace it perfectly while allowing the audience time to continue connecting with all the characters. That takes some real fucking talent to be able to have this many pieces moving and make it work. It shows my fears of fewer episodes was overblown. I hope there’s more obviously, but I cannot find anything to confirm it for sure, and there is no evidence regarding how popular the show is with viewers that I could find in an initial search. This goes down with Battlestar as one of the greatest sci fi shows ever made.
  17. Whatever neoliberalism is, it generally isn’t associated with anti immigration rhetoric. That’s populism. Granted that his economic reforms are probably neoliberal (haven’t read them, but sounds like it from the article), but it’s hardly clear that that would be the only or even primary cause of us going towards autocracies.
  18. Is it every western country’s future that we will all be living in an autocracy not because of China or Russia, but because we eventually elect them?
  19. Opinion | The Other Way Trump Could Steal the White House in 2024 - POLITICO WWW.POLITICO.COM If Congress really wants to protect the presidency, it can’t just reform the process for counting electoral votes.
  20. Inside Pence-world's preparation for a Jan. 6 legal showdown - POLITICO WWW.POLITICO.COM The former vice president asked his top lawyer to draft a memo — first obtained by POLITICO — a month before the Jan. 6 Capitol attack that laid out the history of counting electoral votes.
  21. The Federal Reserve has failed. I started to believe that inflation could never happen again after the easy monetary policy after the Great Recession didn't trigger any. Sure, there may be other factors that are causing what's happening now, but the Federal Reserve is probably most of the problem at this point. They need to tighten a lot quicker, and they need to act now. There is far too much complacency. Other central banks that are experiencing high inflation are also going to need to tighten quicker.
