  1. I’d rather not have weapons break, but the game did accomplish it’s goal of making me feel not too attached to any one of them. We’ll learn more about the new abilities do and can deduce more from there. I’m skeptical about them using the same map, and this trailer made those fears a bit more material. That said, they’ve had many years, and I think we see more of why at some point. I’m just ready to play the game and find out for myself at this point.
  2. Agreed, except the regulatory tides have been turning against big tech conglomerates well before Sony objected. They provided a convenient objection to a large, bold and aggressive acquisition by a tech giant. I don’t think Sony’s objection would have mattered for much if the wind wasn’t already blowing this way. After all, Microsoft has upheld a better reputation than the FAANG companies proper. They had good reason to think this deal would go smoothly in spite of any objection from Sony, which they would have anticipated and expected.
  3. I’ll skip through only if the voice acting itself is cringe.
  4. That's IGN's take they're reading between the lines. Here's what he actually said on the matter.
  5. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto Says Backwards Compatibility Is Easier Than Ever Before - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Following this week's Nintendo earnings report, Shigeru Miyamoto addressed whether a potential Nintendo Switch successor might support backwards compatibility. That plus keeping their NVIDIA partnership means its more likely than not.
  6. Hmm, that makes it hard. Maybe a more vibrant FF9 with less traditional combat?
  7. In fairness, some will be offset by is going towards 10% employee raises. They’re still making a ton of money regardless.
  8. On a serious note, I really enjoy seeing people experience games like this for the first time. I’m not someone who spends my time replaying games ofren, but it’s fun to read impressions to kind of relive it that way.
  9. A $40 remake is not fine because we should have gotten the whole trilogy. Except not, because we actually need Metroid Prime 4 instead of old games. Retro Studios should have never worked on a remake. Even if by doing so, they got the job to make Prime 4. But Prime 4 might have released on aged Switch hardware if they started sooner, which would suck. But nevermind that, fuck remakes. They're cash grabs excused by desperate fanboys. Only it's cool that EA gives a shit about Dead Space again. But not really, because fuck, that's a remake too. If only 343i didn't focus on the Master Chief Collection, Halo Infinite would still be alive. I'm ready and primed to shit on a Bloodborne remake next. But maybe not, because it'd be on a modern console. But probably, because even $40 is too much! The Goldeneye ports we got is the Goldeneye we deserve! ARGGHHHH!
  10. The vouchers almost completely change the calculus here. Eligible Game Voucher games WWW.NINTENDO.COM It's still $60 average for a game after you consider you're giving Nintendo $20 for the discount. But that's enough to negate the price hike if there's another new game you're interested in. This is enough to convince me to pre-order Pikmin 4 now.
  11. If you've got a Switch... please go buy and download this ASAP. Metroid Prime is a classic, maybe the best in the series, maybe the best game in the 'Metroidvania' genre full stop. To be done justice like this makes this remaster a must play if you've never experienced it. I've got minor quibbles with it, but it's still an easy 10 / 10 by today's standards.
  12. It's because everyone wants to repeat in some form or fashion that the Switch is too old. Yes, we get it. We know. These people should just enjoy it in an emulator, to stick it to the man with their too-good-for-Nintendo PCs. At least that way they might come to understand (if not appreciate) the effort here.
  13. I think they've been remarkably consistent in having one major dry period for each of their consoles, with their own games. For the Gamecube, it was definitely near the end of its lifespan. People have rose-tinted glasses about that console these days. Their on-periods since have pretty much all delivered the quality bar they traditionally hit. It's not always in the franchises people loved in the early 00's, but it's there.
  14. It's cool to hate on any of the three console makers until they do something you genuinely like. And then its supposedly a one off because you're still too biased against them. Game release schedules work like that. You won't get what you specifically want all the time from a single publisher when games take years to produce. Besides, you'd probably be unfairly dismissing a whole ream of good shit you'd actually end up enjoying a lot with a better attitude and an open mind. It's games like Returnal, Hi-Fi Rush, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, etc, that should remind everyone that the negativity cycle is total bullshit. "Sony The Game." "Microsoft's games never materialize as they should." "Nintendo keeps making the same thing over and over, I grew out of it." Fuck off with that noise.
  15. They're essentially the spiritual successors to Chrono Cross that Square never made. Sometimes for worse, sometimes for better. Expect radically different battle systems. How much Cross changed from Trigger is how far both games are a departure, even to each other. BK Origins has the best combat system Monolith has ever made, IMO. Best way to describe it is a card battler arcade game mixed with FF ATB. Sounds insane on paper, but it works.
  16. IMO, It would have been disappointing to release the same collection as-is again for $40. I’d really love to see the whole thing redone in one big package a la Mass Effect Trilogy, but it would have been more effort and time to hit this quality bar. If they do 2+3 like this in the future and sell it for $70, I think that would be fine. But for now… let’s see Prime 4. If the rumors were true, Retro had something to prove with this remake to get to work on 4, stealing it back from that now dissolved Chinese dev. In that regard, it served its purpose.
  17. Less than a year ago. Screencap from 3 months ago found on Reddit. I'm not a fan of remakes either generally, but I also believe credit to a quality remaster should be given when its due. On the surface, the effort looks more in line with Bluepoint's work with Shadow of the Collosus and Demon's Souls. As for value, this game shouldn't be singled out when you have similar remasters of games less in need of it, like Last of Us and Dead Space, releasing at $70 or $60. Call Nintendo out for releasing Skyward Sword nearly untouched at $60, not this at $40.
