  1. Most games designed to run well for their hardware I’m fine with, especially PS2 era and beyond. You have to tune your eyes to it if you’re used to more, but they can look good regardless.l of being old/underpowered. By the way, the sea in chapter 5 is probably the worst running part of the game.
  2. Chenso Club | PC Steam Game | Fanatical WWW.FANATICAL.COM Meet the Chenso Club: a growing group of fighters here to save the world. They’re using the aliens’ life-force to power up... Free steam key.
  3. Some are already targeting that, Plagues Tale Requiem being the most notable. How low can you go.
  4. Who said anything about comparing it to the old version? The lighting in it looks next gen compared to the console games we’re seeing now.
  5. I don’t think RT gives diminishing returns the harder it’s pushed, at least not yet. We’re not at that point. If anything it’s the opposite, with developers having to be so careful with their cutbacks on consoles. There’s only so much that can be done, and only a select few developers seemed equipped to make a strong case. I look at Portal RTX and see a generational leap, absolutely. From the little we’ve seen, I think Cyperpunk’s Overdrive RT will do so as well, especially in providing a direct comparison to a rasterized-only alternative. Even the marbles at night tech demo makes the case.
  6. I’d venture to say that the mainstream doesn’t care about VRR displays and 8k, and won’t for some time. It’s a case of diminishing returns. Plus I think the industry will want to push for better quality visuals once 4K60 is truly baseline. And beforhand too, as this gen continues. That would fit also within the whole ‘post resolution’ idea DF has theorized about, where 8k isn’t worth the trade offs. RT is more marketable, IMO. For the simple reason that you can show whipepan comparisons on YouTube and see differences on pretty much any display. Yes, it’s had some bumps in the beginning, but we’ll be seeing more games take fuller advantage of it over the coming years, and less “selective” in how they do. If it all RT needs a is marketing schtick that resonates, then its ‘path-traced.‘ That statement could definitely need some qualifications, similar to how 4K gets thrown around for games (and other media) that doesn’t reach it. But we’ll start seeing more devs mention it soon on the PC side. Maybe even on new consoles.
  7. 'Keep spending more money on our platforms more often' is also part of it. Keeps people in the ecosystem.
  8. The issue this time is that new software techniques and hardware features are blowing past the consoles at too fast a pace. They're still a great value for the spec, and would be perfectly capable if the status quo was kept. But now there's a huge, generational-sized gulf between PC and console 3 years in, plus lingering concerns about UE5 performance in the AAA space. If not, we'd see games like Plauge Tale Requiem and Forbidden West set the technical bar at 30fps and 60fps respectably for most big releases. I think the industry wants to push much further. I think Sony (and Microsoft) sees the runway to push further. The high demand for these consoles and the relative dearth of exclusively current-gen games illustrates just how much people care about performance and fidelity now. It's been conditioned into console gamers, especially since the Pro/X1X. 60fps last gen games was pretty much the selling point the PS5/Series X rode on during the cross gen period.
  9. i thinking I’m going to sit this next one out. It’s going to take me too long to get through the PS5/PS4 games I currently own, and I don't foresee any major visual upgrades to them. Playing Fallen Order recently made me realize totally I'm fine with 1440p60 on consoles for as long as that holds. In some ways I may even prefer it when it means avoiding the #stutterstruggle. As for future games, I’d like to build a new PC a bit better than the capability of midgen hardware instead. The games will all end up there anyways, which I know going into it this time. Outside of Nintendo’s, of course. Which means I’m buying their new machine next.
  10. That explains why you're flying through so quick. You should be able to have about double that by now. It's no biggie though, do as you want. There's also the ascension quests for each character. Make sure you do Sena's at least when you can, its probably the most consequential to the larger narrative. Only a few of the character unlock/ascension quests are thowaway. The norm is high production values almost on par with the main quest.
  11. You're not far off actually. The area before the castle is huge and full of distractions, but you may have made it past it. How many characters have you recruited?
  12. A pro console will also encourage more PS5 / Series X games not to target 60, or even 1440p or higher for resolution modes. On the plus side, PC gaming will feel less held back.
  13. No disagreement on that first part, in theory. Sony already dropped Nvidia once, who knows what it would take to build that relationship back. AMD has brute forced things so far, and while I wouldn't expect them to switch strategies entirely, I think the console manufacturers will be searching for some way to cheat things. Could be some kind of hardware level approach to make FSR3 (more) viable without a monster rig. That could do it.
  14. Sony probably expects Microsoft to push RT mid-cycle. I bet they're both investing in it. GPU is the obvious direction to go if they don't want to leave this generation early. I think that pattern will hold if we see these consoles materialize. It makes even more sense with FSR3 coming.
  15. Last time around the excuse for these machines was 4k and to stave the cycle of people from migrating to PC mid-gen. The latter hasn't changed. If anything, it's only being held back by pricing at the moment. This time, I could see the major pitch being less-compromised raytracing and FSR3 taking full advantage of VRR displays. Oh, and still getting to play games at 60fps+ like people are used to now. That's a big one.
  16. I wouldn't put it past Sony and AMD to do something bespoke together. After all, the last Pro model built checkerboarding acceleration into the hardware.
  17. That's like saying that the Xbox 360 didn't need to exist because the og Xbox did bump mapping just fine. These consoles are now a generational leap behind with it.
  18. Market forces may dictate that its unnecessary, but a mid-gen refresh is now a competitive precedent. I bet both Sony and Microsoft don't want to be caught with their pants down. Sony just launched a VR headset for the price of a console, so I don't think the cost of a premium product would push them away from developing it. As for whether this gen needs it, the writing is on the wall IMO. These consoles are only about as RT capable as a 2060 Super. UE5 will be heavy in AAA titles. And its likely that AMD's frame generation solution will need a beefier spec to have practical use.
  19. EXCLUSIVE - PS5 Pro in Development, Could Release Late 2024 - Insider Gaming INSIDER-GAMING.COM Insider Gaming sources have confirmed that the PS5 Pro is in development and could release with a tentative release date of late 2024.
  20. Like with Ravenbound, I'm highly skeptical of the idea of an open world roguelike. Even more so for a co-op one. Visually it looks awesome. Conceptually, I'm worried its reaching too far.
  21. Plot wise, it’ll make more sense in time. End of Chapter 5, start of Chapter 6 is a strong highlight, I don’t want to overhype it, but it’s absolutely worth it. Chapter 5 is big though. It does some things to change it up, but just know it does take some time.
