  1. If PC part prices were as reasonable as they were at this point last gen, I think there could have been more migration away from consoles by now. I’m not inclined to build a new PC yet as a result, which was enough to buy a PS5 when I didn’t plan on it. That and stutter issues that made me think skipping consoles wasn’t the best option.
  2. It may not be that much, since Sony appears to be eating into Microsoft’s lost market share. Definitely not with these GPU prices. The crypto boom and it’s lasting effects aren’t doing PC any favors.
  3. They’re more than just fanboy fodder, they’re a referendum on their strategy shift. When the Xbox One launched they were selling $60 exclusives as their primary model. Now with all Microsoft published games on PC, and a subscription at the forefront of their value offering, they haven’t been able to push needle forward in the living room. That’s worth talking about, and not only in terms of their competition. It’s a bit bewildering to me from a value sense. I feel like we’ve been here before with the GameCube, where a console with much better value for the price couldn’t make inroads. Microsoft has its Games Pass advantage, yet Sony freely jacks up the price of their inferior service because they don’t feel threatened. That’s a negative for the industry, and another obvious place where sales still matter. We haven’t seen the full extent of how Microsoft’s acquisitions will play into hardware sales. We probably won’t get a fuller picture until next gen. But I’m assuming the hope is that CoD on Games Pass becomes a system seller and killer app for Xbox consoles, and be more than enough to reverse course. The only way they stop making consoles is if their install base follows them to a streaming platform. I’m sure Phil would consider going there if he saw the opportunity. But in the UK courts at least, they’ve argued how slow and insignificant xCloud adoption has been.

  5. Added wrinkle: XBO tracking ahead of the 360 at this point kind of makes sense, with Microsoft launching a year before Sony and whatnot. They got out of the gate early and the industry had to catch up. As for Series consoles, its likely a combination of a poor 1st party start to the generation, and not coming into it with a consumer base advantage.
  6. Their main review complained about it not looking as fresh as Live a Live. Seriously. I have no idea what these people truly want. It looks extremely faithful to the original and modern all the same. And since that og art is more off kilter and wacky than the Mario RPGs that came later, that should have been a positive. It doesn’t need a cel shaded filter or vanillaware art.
  7. There’s something of a post game now. Don’t know if that’s worth $60 in addition, but it’s worth considering.
  8. Too low, but that one sounds like it's on the critics for not appreciating it enough. At least one review I read called out the game's length. It's a dozen or two hour RPG, depending on how much you engage with the secrets or mini-games. So it's not bloated like modern day RPGs, but that's apparently a negative.
  9. Video games Black Friday deals - Walmart.com WWW.WALMART.COM Shop for Video games Black Friday deals at Walmart and save. Walmart deals, going live on the 22nd. Mostly expected, but I noticed some good $30 pick ups like Street Fighter 6, Jedi Survivor and Resident Evil 4. Lego Star Wars will be $15. That could be a good stocking stuffer.
  10. I don’t think they own Crystal Dynamics outright, but Tomb Raider is essentially an Amazon joint now.
  11. I just want to not have to scroll down so far for redeemable games. So much digital junk for multiplayer games I'll never play.

  14. Marsupilami is the Kirby of DKC clones. Its easy and chill. The controls are so good, perhaps even better than its inspirations. The level design doesn't quite reach those heights, but still is entertaining the whole of its short runtime. There's only 4 worlds, including the last patched in one, which is a notable step up visually from the rest of the game. It's just a great time overall. These type of platformers are rarely relaxing, but at its best, you can hop and dart through it at a speed closer to a good 2d Sonic game, with less memorization. Not shovelware in the slightest. It'd also be a great game for kids. 8/10 2023 Games Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - 8/10 Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 7.5/10 Xenoblade 3: Future Redeemed - 9/10 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom 9.5/10 Marsupilami Hoobaventure - 8/10
  15. I can see the complaint, but really, roughly 1/3 of your time in TOTK is spent exploring things you've seen in BoTW. That's not to say there's no faults with the new content either. But I haven't played any expansion DLC to a game that added so much. I've yet to play Spider-Man 2, but I'd question why a similar criticism isn't being leveraged against it (containing the same location a 3rd time) if ToTK's redundancies are supposedly overkill. There's things ToTK could have still done better to midigiate the been-there-done-that feel. The battery system is far too limiting, especially in the early game, but even in the late game. All grounded vehicles should have taken much less charge to run, and vehicular weapons should deal more damage. Having your vehicle die after 100 yards and not kill anything but grunts totally dampened my desire to build something cool. I'd rather be horseback, which is a shame. On the positive, they took away the guardians. That takes away a huge would-be pain point about exploring the map again. The thing they put in as a replacement is cool, and not as frequent of an issue to deal with.
  16. Did you play it? As great as Future Redeemed is, its probably not GOTY material. Systems, characters, combat, plot connections and series payoff are fantastic. But the enviornments are the least expansive in the series, and some of the linear bits really aren't great. It's a step up from Torna since they didn't recycle places from the main game, but still. Also the side quests. They're all pretty bog standard and inconsequential, as opposed to the Hero quests in XB3 proper. It's a wonderful little game though, no doubt. More open world games need to steal from it. But none will, because game developers don't have time to make it through the entire series.
  17. TOTK and BG3 are the clear front runners, but I could see a scenario where they don't actually steal away most GOTYs. It's never been easier to champion an underdog. Maybe that's also a reason why BG3 wins. It was an underdog until it wasn't.
  18. Street Fighter 6 should have made it ahead of Resident Evil 4. It'd feel weird voting RE4 GOTY in 2023 when it left it biggest mark 17 years ago.
  19. Why do these companies keep following trends that have proven to backfire so regularly? I can only assume it’s because they already have these games deep into development and are needing to double down.
  20. Maybe they should be using AI to improve lip snycing as opposed to putting actors out of work. Playing FFXVI currently. The side quests suffer from the same issue, of the lip sync looking awful. But the voice acting is all ace, even of random NPCs, which almost makes up for it. I can only imagine how soulless it would feel if they were all AI generated voices.
  21. I'm sad they picked the wrong Kirby game. Even if it's cool to finally see Nintendo published stuff at $30.
