  1. It doesn’t immediately hit you on the head, but the lighting and weather effects still hold up quite well IMO, especially for a last gen open world game. The Horde too, but with that, it’s more impressive for the hardware limitations of the vanilla PS4. They seemingly found a way to do Lumen-like lighting in UE4. Modified the engine, similar to Rocksteady’s efforts with UE3.
  2. I really look forward to finally playing this… in like 2-3 years when I can scoop it for the same bargain bin price I picked up TLOU2 for. I’m perpetually behind with Sony franchises anyhow.
  3. No, but several of the later classes are more fun and do play into your larger moveset choices. You’ll be glad if you do. You also get the option to keep their original clothes, so you might as well. There’s also some related quests to class unlocks/leveling that are on par with the main story, that’s another reason to engage with it. There’s an auto build option if you don’t want to do all the tinkering. Just switching them without doing it still works out fine mostly.
  4. Chapter 5 feels almost as open as Chapter 3. They hit you with a ‘we can’t go back for some time after this’ and it’s got me out questing again.
  5. Halo Infinite Forge Mode Gets November Release Date, But Split-Screen Co-op Cancelled - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Halo Infinite's Forge mode is coming in November alongside the long-awaited online co-op - but split-screen campaign co-op has been cancelled. I couldn't imagine them getting it to run on prior gen hardware. Open world split screen is a massive technical feat. I'm still a little annoyed they haven't put split screen into the MCC collection on PC.
  6. Can't speak for the others, but Dread is worth seeing to the end.
  7. "In terms of future hardware, absolutely, I think we're going to see more console hardware down the road. Just like in-- in video, just like in music, it's not that streaming has cut off device innovation. I think we'll continue to see that, and that's absolutely what we're planning for." No where has Phil given a hint that their console business is something they'd like to get out of if they could. In fact, it's an unnecessary evil that they charge for Gold. But they do it anyways, because they're going to leverage their position. Bold words considering Phil's stance above. This is like saying that Nintendo will leave the portable market because phone gaming is the future. We’re now two portable generations past the pundits insisting on that.
  8. This all is one of the things I like most about Nintendo. Each year there’s typically one or two substantive releases you won’t know about until 6 months before they’re out. Xenoblade 3 was announced this year and we’re playing it now. That’s still wild to me. What other publisher would hold onto a project that big without a peep or a leak? Of course they won’t do that for big Zelda sequels, but they’ve shown a capacity to surprise us with literally anything else. That’s also a big reason why their E3 showcases get people hyped up.
  9. This is far too reductive. Xbox consoles are currently a pillar of their buisness model, not merely a “perk,” and it’s hard to see a scenario where it wouldn’t at least remain an anchor for them. Xbox systems allow them to generate almost 1.5x more subscription revenue, own the platform to set that rate and hold market influence. It’s where people will actually pay “Ultimate” premiums. It explains why Microsoft got greedy and tried to double the price of Gold: to push the stragglers in their dedicated install base towards the premium package. There wouldn’t be any reason to do that for a “hobby” business. Consoles also are their ticket to royalties. There is no point in the foreseeable future where Microsoft will corner the market for PC DLC. On Xbox consoles? It’s all them. And for those who still buy games, as they will for the right release (hello Elden Ring, GTA6, etc), the business they’re running is still plenty lucrative. Making money on the actual hardware sale has always been secondary. What could make their console business look insignificant? Games Pass on Steam, on terms Valve would accept? Games Pass on Sony and Nintendo consoles, for whatever it takes? None of that would get them there, unless their console line takes a Wii U dump. The dissolution of their console business isn’t the end game. They’ll keep their console cash cow running for as long as people keep buying them. They’ll push Games Pass independent of other storefronts, until they force someone’s hand. They’ll continue efforts for mass adoption of xCloud on TV apps and mobile. And eventually, they’ll raise their subscription prices.
  10. I wonder how much a PC that runs it decently would cost to build… They’re just using this as an excuse to port beg.
  11. I don't mind the form factor so much, practicality considered. I'm one of those weirdos that plays with them in the joycon cradle all the time. I could stop being lazy and use the 8BitDo adapter I own with another controller... but then I'd have to keep something else charged, and synced to it. Plus the battery life on them is fantastic. For a long game like this, that's a plus for me, I hate having my PS controllers die on me so often if I forget a day or two of charging. HD rumble is a pretty neat, albeit underutilized tech. I've got a PS5 now, the DualSense in Astrobot does it way better. But sliding down those ropes in XB3 did remind me that Switch still isn't half bad at it. It's impressive I can even feel it so much using the cradle. Do I think they'll improve them in a future Switch? Yes, and we can hope. But this drift issue is unforgivable.
  12. I don't think this will work out for them medium to long term without a price drop. They should have priced the PS5 Digital at $450 in retrospect. That kind of gap in other countries is probably what did them in once inflation hit.
  13. Beyond the performance concerns, I find it pretty much pointless to add this here and now, this far into the Switch's lifespan. There's 100+ million of these things out there already. Pirating Switch versions of indies also makes little sense, since PC's got pretty much all of them native. You'd do much better to play (/pirate) a native version with superior art assets and framerates. Even 2D games like Hades illustrate this gap. Perhaps Denuvo thinks Nintendo themselves will bite for their 1st party stuff? Nothing would motivate hackers more to crack the DRM.
  14. This should be fun to watch, regardless. I gotta wonder how he's feeling about Multiversus being played by more people than Smash now. I seem to remember a time he said that many have tried, none have succeeded. Quotes about him saying Smash can't continue without him are much easier to find.
  15. Man, fuck joycon drift. It’s been so long since I used my Switch, I wish I would have sent them in for replacement before this game. They’ve been getting progressively worse as I’ve gone along. I’ll power through it.
  16. XB1’s vision never felt held back by the hardware IMO. There’s copious amounts of pop in, especially in Makna Forest, but they just went for it anyways and it worked out fine most of the time. There’s not a single part of that game that feels like they reigned it in for technical reasons. The way it communicated where you were relative to the larger world was simply mind blowing at the time, and not just for a Wii game. XB2 had some pretty ambitious set pieces as well, Tantal most particularly. The game still feels a bit more segmented as a whole. It’s the only one I wonder if they had to dial things back, since several of the later areas are more vanilla but run a lot better. It’s like they designed Gormott then realized that they couldn’t do that again with the resolution dips.
  17. Huh? Like what? The crazy thing about these games to me is how the design doesn’t feel shackled by the hardware. Sure, unlike X there is some loading between parts of the world. But there’s also large amounts of biome diversity within. It feels like enemy density is a step up from 2 and Torna, so is the scope and size of most areas. If Monolith didn’t build a reputation for this kind of thing over the years (BoTW included), people would be calling this game a miracle. Just like the first game was on the Wii. I’ll agree that it’d always be nicer see their games on better hardware. This is their 4th or 5th release on Switch/Wii U spec now. If anything dampens the impact, it’s that.
  18. I stoped doing it around that point, you’ll be fine. Leveling up classes is slower the more OP you are.
  19. I picked up an accessory recently that heals with applying buffs, that sounds fun to play around with when I get there.
