  1. Caught this in the latest Dead Space DF video. Dead Space doesn't really use dynamic res from what they found. Acccording to AMD's documentation, that's somewhere between 'Quality' and 'Balanced' upscaling to 1440p, roughly Balanced when upscaling to 4k. This is in line with Forspoken. Granted that game could dip below to a 'Performance' level setting with its dynamic res.
  2. There's probably not many of these people in the grand scheme of things. Just a very vocal minority. As with the sort that wanted to see this game get a muted reception. Best case scenario, they cancel each other out, and the game sells based on its own merits.
  3. It is sufficiently Zelda enough in dungeons. Just mixed with character action combat, as advertised. But I really dislike the whole edgy vibe of it. it felt even more cringe than PoP Warrior Within to me.
  4. Not much of interest on the 3D Platformer front this time. That's always the category I check first.
  5. So I just got to the halfway point, I think I can say I get this game now. It's a lot about managing the right risk/rewards, and not getting hit as much as possible in the first biome particularly. The boss I just fought was super easy because of how much max health and protection I had stockpiled. The biome I was just in also felt pretty cakewalk as well. I'm beating these bosses first try. One hint I don't often see mentioned: don't pick up more malfunctions than 2. Getting that critical one when you pick up a 3rd is almost never worth it. I ended up not opening chests and such towards the end of my last run. It both does and doesn't. As you get better at the first area, the next sections feel easier as your upgrades stack. Harder enemies perhaps, but you'll be the one overwhelming them.
  6. Next Fest February 2023 - LIVE NOW! STORE.STEAMPOWERED.COM Steam Next Fest is a week-long celebration featuring hundreds of FREE playable demos as well as developer livestreams and chats. Players try out upcoming games on Steam pre-release, developers gather feedback and build an audience ahead of their Steam launch, everyone wins! Tons of good stuff this time. Planet of Lana, Case of Benedict Fox, System Shock remake, Xenonauts 2, Valfaris: Mecha Therion, etc.
  7. Try? Sure. I agree that the ones most offended by it wouldn't review the game to begin with. I still wouldn't doubt that many reviewers went into it with a bias against the franchise. Keep it out of the review unless those things seeped into the game, IMO. Publish a separate editorial instead.
  8. These are really surprising reviews, especially considering all the factors stacked against it. They aren't reviewing it for the same reasons some other outlets aren't.
  9. Trying to get more PC gamers interested in Games Pass. The operating model of their games division has shifted dramatically in the past 5 years. So has their big wallet energy. If you were even remotely surprised when they bought Activision or Bethesda, you shouldn’t be suggesting you know their future.
  10. Reasons I don't purchase: 1) It could be given away free soon on Epic or Amazon. 2) It might end up Humble or Fanatical bundle soon. 3) I think I can do better with my free credit than that particular deal, even if I don't spend a cent of it until later. 4) The content-complete version isn't that cheap. My wishlist is mainly for games that I have a passing interest in trying, to keep tabs on during Steam sales. Every so often I'll reorganize it to put the ones I'm more interested in at the top. Not a lot of well regarded recent games drop to $5 these days. Chances are they'll be in a bundle or giveaway first. It's the opposite for me. If I own most of the rest of the franchise already, I'll be more willing to complete the set, even if I haven't touched the games before. Deal has to be real good relative to the past. DMC4 was the most recent, I got it because of a complete the set discount.
  11. Anodyne by Melos Han-Tani, Marina Kittaka HAN-TANI.ITCH.IO In this Zelda-like game, explore the wondrous dream world of the human Young. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux I believe Epic gave away the sequel some time ago.
  12. The past 10 years of not owning ActivisionBlizzard and Bethesda (for most of it) hardly means anything towards a future where they do. Sure, there's a chance Microsoft could bungle it, goodness knows AB needs a clean sweep. But it's waaaay too premature to insist that they'll waste these companies. If anything, Minecraft says otherwise. Call of Duty is still going to sell. Diablo IV is still going to sell. Even Starfield is still going to sell plenty if chalk full of bugs. We're including 3rd person shooters now? I said FPSs. Those other games might be bigger than some of Microsoft's individual FPS franchises, but in the totality of things, they've got several of them in addition to the biggest fish in the pond. (and the rest of the ocean for that matter) I'm not looking to debate what a CRPG is. I'll just say they now own most of the major players in a branch of it. The one that also happens to be most typically associated with the term itself. Again, this is likely Microsoft making a play for PC gamers.
  13. That's either tongue and cheek (Games Pass) or not fully taking into account the cash cow franchises they're buying. I said practically. Owning Activision-Blizzard and Bethesda corners a hugely significant amount of the FPS market. Plenty to leverage an advantage over Sony, be that through Games Pass, (timed) exclusive DLC, outright 'console' exclusivity, or all of the above. Fair, if you truly consider CDPR and Bioware CRPG companies these days. (And ZA/UM not essentially dead) I see this more as Microsoft pressing an advantage they saw a relatively cheap opportunity in, even if it's for a select crowd. It gets more PC gamers on board with Games Pass, if little else. They haven't owned these studios long enough for us to know if they're squandering anything with them. And they could never succeed without the potential to. Potential was once a very real problem for Microsoft, so it's undoubtedly a positive change.
  14. Here's what they've shown: They bought Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda, Obsidian, Double-Fine, Ninja Theory, Playground Games, etc. They've likely got more development resources than Sony now. Perhaps even Sony and Nintendo combined. They're on track to practically monopolize entire genres: All the biggest FPS franchises that aren't Far Cry, Apex, Destiny and Battlefield. All CRPG devs of note outside of Larian Studios. Maybe after Activision they'll lock that one up for completionist sake. Within the next 10 years, they'll be a much stronger competitor, even more when going into the next Xbox launch. The only thing stopping them is tripping over themselves. Or sorely misjudging what they can afford to support under their revenue model. Or the FTC blocking their latest $68.7 billion purchase.
  15. This is ticking all the right boxes for me. Hades + character action + Japanese styling.
  16. Activision Blizzard to pay $35 million for breaking SEC whistleblower rule WWW.SHACKNEWS.COM The SEC has announced Activision Blizzard will pay the organization a $35 million settlement. Activision Blizzard: We're gag ruling ex-employes from talking with you. SEC: Nice try. Get fucked, criminals.
  17. I don't think it's ever too late for Microsoft to compete, with the all studios they've bought. It may not lead to them 'winning' the generation in hardware sales, but I think they'll finish strong, better than the Xbox One. Remember, they were still just starting to buy devs back then. Sony is becoming too predictable themselves. I want more things like Returnal and good in-house Japanese games. Nintendo is always playing safe, but never has been this predictable. I'd take another Other M level surprise at this point, even if it ends up sucking. Releasing it too late after the Xbox Next Thing. Pissing off Europe too much already with price increases.
