  1. That's a bit reactionary. Monolith's temporal upscaller developed for Xenoblade 3 is likely being used. (derived from work by Activision as a starting point) It's far and away the best we've seen on the system. In portable mode, its actually supersampling down its reconstructed output from ~900p to 720p. Digital Foundry: Long story short, you shouldn't be worried about Tears of the Kingdom looking or running too bad. The art style already looked good for the resolution it targeted before, and reconstruction has only gotten better since, which should help the performance stability.
  2. I can easily wrap my mind around a new 2023 game costing $10 more than a 2017 game once did. Because just look at the price of everything else. And how long the industry stuck to $60 beforehand. The bigger issue to me, personally, is how much further Nintendo is pricing themselves out of impulse buy territory when they discount.
  3. I tried Protodroid too. Entirely serviceable, but definitely a case where it needed more of a budget. (Also no inverted Y-axis option, booooo) Planet of Lana is by far the highlight of what I've played so far. It understands everything that made Limbo and Inside good, without being so dour.
  4. Inflation price hikes I have no problem with. Paltry $20 off discounts years after release, I do. It's going to sting seeing $50 as the new deep-discount price for a Nintendo game. Imagine needing to sell 10 million copies to succeed while watching the console manufacturers push subscription models.
  5. It's a hint that the Switch 2 is targeting a current-gen development spec. Right? Right? That's how they get me to buy more $70 games from them. As it stands, I'm in for Zelda, Xenoblade and maybe Mario. Nothing else.

  7. They're not that different than the first game. Which doesn't surprise me. The takedowns feel good though. I think they get that much right. The big problem the first game had was telegraphing when blocks work.
  8. They've expressed interest in not leveraging CoD for Xbox / Game Pass' competitive advantage, for a time. Pretty sure they'd take that over cutting Blizzard. I could also see an argument made for selling off some of their CoD studios to keep the IP.
  9. I haven't played AC: Odyssey on good enough settings to properly judge, but it didn't floor me. There's better looking games last gen in both open-world and linear action varieties.
  10. Just finished it on PS5. There's moments when it looks really good, such as many of the cutscenes and vista shots. Then the basic corridors and such are bog standard for the last generation, but not offensively bad or anything. More of that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The art direction carries it well enough, IMO.
  11. Funny moment in the video when Cal went through what looked like a crawl space, but just ran straight through it. It’s nice to see, even when the game doesn’t look very next gen otherwise yet.
  12. Please no Metroid Prime 4 on Switch. Launch it with the new system. Having Samus Returns on the 3DS was unfortunate enough, even when I enjoyed it regardless.

  14. I still doubt it's coming mid-year unless they rush it out before a Switch 2 or something.

  17. There are much better options today to express unpopular beliefs as a poor nobody than as a rich celebrity. It's much simpler to go against the grain if no one knows or cares about you. For better and worse.
  18. It looks kinda like Dragon's Dogma combat from that small clip.
